Hi,

I've just installed a brand new DotNetNuke - latest version, with latest forums version.

Tried uploading avatar image for my user (which is in administrators role) and got this error displayed:

An Error Has Occurred When Attempting To Save The File D:\[stripped off]\Portals\0\Forums\UserAvatar\darkelf_male.gif. Please Contact Your Hosting Provider To Ensure The Appropriate Security Settings Have Been Enabled On The Server.

I went to the specified folder and didn't find the folder Forums at all. So I have created it, including UserAvatar and gave write permissions. Verified that by creating a test page and creating a text file within it. That worked just fine, but forum still gives the same error.

Note, I have not yet configured anything in DotNetNuke yet, maybe e-mail settings only. Is there something else I should do to make avatar uploads work?

Thanks :)

Accepted Answer

Have the user group upload rights?  You can set it over the Admin - File Manager.  Otherwise, check the permission settings in real Folders for the domain, information you find in the DNN install document.

Also on first using, please go in the Forum Admin section and make the Avatar settings and save it.

Regards

Matthias

You were right - about first using thing. Once in Forum Admin, I saved avatar's settings (without changing it) - everything worked just fine. Guess I missed that when was reading docs.

Thanks :)

We have to write a new documentation, but it need a lot of time. It is planed to make a new documentation.  But we have not the time at the moment.  So it will come if soon it is possible.

Regards

Matthias
