Firstly I'd like to say this module is most good. But there are few issues.

I am able to upload a file when I post forum entry, but only when I select the file with the correct permission. That is fine and as expected.

When you enable attachements, you are initially shown the root folder. I have the following questions:

  • How is an average user going to know which folder they need upload files?
  • Why not have the ability in the general settings for a forum to set the folder where uploads  go?
  • Why not allow multiple uploads
  • Please remove the ability for thread posters to decide where files are to be uploaded. Or at least make this a configurable option.

Other questions I have:

  • If a user needs to register to create a new thread indicate this on the forum module.

This module has some serious usability issues for the average user.  Keep the non developer in mind when working on the workflow of this module.

At least you can disable Attachments in te "General Settings" !

If you need a sepreate information that unregistered uers have to register or Login first, you could handle this easy by adding a text/Html Module and inserting your text.  Sett to the Module only view permissions for unregistered users.

Paul, you can see why the forum can't set the upload directory here: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/7/threadid/263291/scope/posts/Default.aspx

You can also view the pinned thread for the reason why registration is required (for now) here: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/7/threadid/26117/scope/posts/Default.aspx

I have logged the multiple attachment support enhancement in Gemini here: http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=7062&PROJID=7

This should show that everything you are discussing has been at least a consideration, we are not just thinking from a developer perspective. If you wish to see things that have been addressed for 4.5, you can view my very recent post here: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/7/threadid/252337/scope/posts/Default.aspx.
