I'm seriously looking for ways to improve the forum SQL performance in a shared hosting environment.

I have 04.09.01 installed on CrystalTech.com (after abandoning Godaddy hosting) and I still have problems with large forums.

Compared to a Low-SQL page-pull at about 1.5 seconds, Forum Modules with more than 100 threads seem to drop SQL response-time to between 15-30 seconds. This is unbearable for most of my users and I get a lot of complaints. I have so far been unable to improve the stats.

Suggestions appreciated.

I'm still waiting for a helpful response to this... While I'm waiting (weeks) I'm also looking at other Content management Systems and getting ready to start giving a bunch of bad press to DotNetNuke... Does anybody come in this forum?

The performance of a SQL and a Web Server  is dependent on the hardware.  I know that in the last beta there was a some little changes that makes the forum a little faster.  But I couldn't provide it in this status with the community.

Gernerall setting a Index could be help on performance on SQL servers.

Hi Wizard,

I found your post when searching for my own general DNN improvements.  I don't know if your problem is only with forums or not, but regardless - if you are running DNN, you should keep http://www.mitchelsellers.com on speed dial.  Mitch has posted several great blogs about optimizing DNN performance, including:

I would expect these tips to benefit every part of your site!

HTH,
Sam

Thanks Samuel,

I've used the settings listed in "How I Get My DotNetNuke Sites To Run So Fast"... and it seemed to make a slight difference.

I have a feeling that certain elements of the user-Profile checking routines have the potencial to error out and delay processing while forum threads/posts are being pulled. I installed SQLexpress at home, replicated the entire database from the website and pulled a Forums/Threads/Posts query (for a specific ForumID) in less than a second here... I imagine that the routines for checking User Permissions/Post Tracking/Etc. are what are holding up the process.

I'm going to have to set through the code with live data... bummer.
