Hello,

I am running forum 4.5.3 in dnn 05.01.02.

If I enable file attachment in my forum (by clicking the checkbox in Attachment Management) I am finding that the option to add attachments is only available to users who are set as Forum Administrators (under forum Module Settings).

I want everyone who has access to the forum (which is being controlled through security roles) to have the ability to add attachments. Hopefully I am just missing a setting somewhere to make this work. Any suggestions on enabling this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Jeff

Attachment permissions are controlled by the folder permissions they are going to be stored in (relative to the Portals/PortalID directory). By default, this is set to Forums/Attachments/ I believe. Once you confirm the folder, permissions are controlled from the DNN File Manager.

Thanks for the reply,

What you describe is how we understand it should work as well. We are using the the default Forums/Attachements/ folder and if a user is in a security role that has the 'Forum Administrator' field set to 'Premission Granted' on the forum module settings screen, then the option to have attachments is displayed on the 'Add/Edit Post' screen and attachments can be uploaded.

If the same user then has the 'Permission Granted' setting removed (making them just a forum user rather than a forum admin) we are no longer seeing the option to have attachments being displayed in the forum screen (i.e. the attachements box is not displayed on the 'Add/Edit Post' screen).

The Forums/Attachements/ folder (in File Manager) has view and write permissions set to 'Permission Granted' for both forum admins and forum users.

Is there anything else that ties the attachment option to the Forum Administrator?

Jeff

Hi JeffBr

I am experiencing the same issue as you are and I would like to ask if you have been able to resolve this. I created the attachments folder in the Forum/ folder and have gave it all the Write/Read Permissions settings but the attachments section still does not appear for ordinary user. Please assist if you have solved this?

Hello Donny,

I haven't been able to find a solution to this yet. If I do find one I will be sure to post it.

I would be interested to know if anyone else is experiencing this problem or has found a solution.

Jeff
