I just did a fresh DNN 5 install with the latest forum module, Under my admit account I am able to upload a forum avatar, however all my reg users get the following error;

*You Do Not Have Sufficient Permission To Write To Folder Forums/UserAvatar/. Please Contact Your Hosting Provider To Ensure The Appropriate Security Settings Have Been Enabled On The Server.*

Any help appreciated.

make sure, the account used by asp.net has full file system permissions for DNN installation folder and all subfolders.

 It seems I had to, manually, add write permissions to registered users to the avatar and attachment folders via the DNN admin file explorer. Why during the install by default it didn't set that I don't know seems it should.

It depends on when and how the folders are created. When the folders are created from the avatar page, folders are created with the permissions.

FYI: In the next version of the module, avatars will be offloaded to the core profile (for user avatars) and all other avatars will be altered to use the same file picker the core profile does (for photo profile properties) and will also utilize the same core create thumbnail image generator. This is what is currently in use on this site now (dotnetnuke.com).
