I need help with a General Exception being thrown that is listed in my Log Viewer.  I have no idea how to decipher this message and what is causing it.  Is this the proper location to ask or can someone point me in the right direction.

Yes, this is the right place. Go ahead and poste the ENTIRE error message including stack trace from the Event Viewer. You may wish to xxxxxx out any information such as server name, ip address, host name, etc.

Also, please indicate the following:

1. What DotNetNuke version are you running?
2. Did you upgrade recently? If so, from what version?
3. What version of ASP.Net is the site running under?
4. What version of Windows Server or Operating System and what version of IIS is the site running under?
5. What version of MS SQL Server database is the site using?
6. Do you have any idea what user operation  or other recent change in the system may be causing the error to be logged?

Bill,

First thank you very much for your fast reply to my request for help.

DotNetNukeCommunity Version
Version: 05.02.03 (74)
.Net Framework 3.5
Sql Server 2008
Windows Server 2008
IIS 7

I have not upgraded the installation in some time.  I can't say when this started but it has been several months.  I did clear the log file so I can't say how far back it goes.  I do want to bring this installation up to the new version so wanted to clear this issue up first.  As for what is causing it I think it just occurs with a page reload.

The error is occurring in the DotNetNuke Forums module, or rather more specifically in an extension to the forum module called "Top Threads". The forum module has undergone a couple of upgrades since the one that your site is probably using. The latest Forums version is 05.00.00 but that requires a DotNetNuke installation of 5.04.01 or later. Forums v 4.05.03 will work with DotNetNuke 4.08.01 and later but is most likely the same version you are now using. For more information on Forums versions and for download, visit http://dnnforum.codeplex.com.

As for the Top Threads forum extension, I believe that is still available for download at http://dnnforums.com which lists the latest version being 1.03.00 for use with DotNetNuke 4.08.01 or later. Quite possibly that is the same version you are now using. I would suspect that the version of the forum extensions such as Top Threads must match that of the Forums module itself and do not yet see any mention of a new version of the forum extensions for Forums 05.00.00.

I am going to move this thread to the DotNetNuke Forums module forum so that those more familiar with this issue (Chris P.) can have a better chance of seeing it.

Bill,

Thanks again.  I checked my module definitions and it shows the version I have as 1.30 for Top Threads.  In fact that is the version number Latest Post and Top Users extensions.  On the forums webpage those are the latest version numbers.  Would you recommend that I just remove the module for the page for now and do a DNN upgrade.  Then follow that up with the updated forum installation?

Mike
