Hi!

I wonder how to implement multiple forums on my web site. The use case is as follows:

The web site is for an organization. There is always a navigation panel for organizational hierarchy visible. When a user clicks in a particular organizational Unit, the forum for this Unit appears. The user experience is that every Unit has it's own independent forum. I need such additional functionality:

1) user's are allowed to create new threads/posts only within forums of selected Unit's (one user might have the permission within several forums)

2) it's possible to programmatically create forums for newly created Units (ie. create forums with default groups/subforums in it)

Could you suggest me what is the simplest way to achieve this? I thought of using groups as single forums and allow users to display only one group at once (1 forum group = 1 organizational Unit). Is it a good way? Is it possible to set moderator rights for a group? Is it possible to set "create new threads/posts" rights for a groups?

Thanks for any reply in advance.

Regards, icho.bep

Create a single master forum, where you create all your groups (1 group per unit) and all your forums. Set permissions on these forums as private and expose the module to all registered users. Now, this should be on a hidden tab. Add an existing module to a new page for each Unit. Edit the copied module's settings and select the group you wish to show. Each unit's page will now display that forum. You should use roles and set your tab permissions per unit accordingly. THis allows each unit to have their own set of forums (within a group) and still allows a single point of administration. However, do note that if you set private forums properly you can use a single forum and people will only see forums/groups the are permitted. (I prefer this method)

1. This is handled based on how i described above.

2. You could do this, but have to account for everything above. There are add forum and add group methods, you can see at bottom of PreConfig.vb that do what you are talking about.

Do remember, you cannot set permissions at the group level but you don't need to.
