Shnar, I highly recommend waiting for the new release. Also, if you are going to do this and would like to contribute back, I will see it gets added as an option to the following forum release.

What's the ETA on the next version? My deadline for this feature can probably wait until February or even March, but not later past that...

There is a way to do it in DNN forums now; it just can't be integrated into the same forum.
If you want:
Create a security role for the private forums.
Create a new page.
Under page permissions, you don't allow all users view permissions... just the admins and the new security role  (or just assign individual roles).
Put your forum on the new page and assign view and edit permission to the security role.

Now your client/admin should be able to create a private forum and as many groups there as they want...

I think the new version of the forums could integrate it by a similar system... just give an option in groups to set a view permission...

For anyone to be able to create a forum, they must be either a site administrator or an admin for a particular page where the module is. Anyone who has this admin ability on a page w/ the module, they can do far more than create a single forum. They can manage any other user settings for specific users portal wide, they can change settings on other existing groups/forums, and they can also affect anything attached to that moduleID from an administrative perspective. Because of this, I suggest nobody take this approach. The new version of the forums has completely changed security/permissions but this will still be the case in that version as well.

I have spoken w/ Shnar and will continue to do so, but the only way to make something like he desires happen without affecting the security of the module as a whole, a new interface must be created which can be controlled/exposed to another role.

Maybe i misread the post, but i took it as the site admin would create the forum... not every individual user... If i was correct, the view security role should work...
