Dnn5, I read somewhere, was to be the version of content localization. Trying to build a multi-language website, I have tested the ealo pack. This extension pack offers 3 functions:
- Localize tab names and display localized names in menu
- Display localized names in breadcrumbs
- a localized Text/HTML module with separate title and source for each language.
The content localization of Dnn5 is still very much vapourware and from closeby it is difficult to see the shape of the clouds, that vapour produces. Are there no localized HTML modules in 5.x? There must be.
I will uninstall the ealo extensions, but only in a couple of days, because I want to show the Khmer staff what to expect from a localized container.
Before trying ealo out, I had been translating the most important resource files, needed to give the portal a bi-lingual look. I however failed to find the resource files for 'Pages' in the Admin menu and for the login/register/logout on the menu bar.
After I had installed ealo, I could localize all the page names, but ealo had not retained the information from the localized global files. It kept its own translations. But that fact then raises questions about how it all will fit in with Dnn 5.3, 5.4, 5.5 If DNN 5 is all about content localization, are those versions not likely to make the eaol modules obsolete?
One thing that I had been looking for, was a way to exclude pages from the menu system based on the language with eventually a different home page based on the browser's language settings. Ealo cannot do that [please tell me wrong] This is the reason why I see it necessary to uninstall ealo and wait for what DNN will release in 2010. (it's a pitty realy) Is there any information available about the expected new features to support content localization?
