OK, I've searched high and low, and can't find this topic, but it's GOTT'A exists somewhere.

I'm new to localization w/ DNN, and have dug around enough to realize (I think, anyway) that the starting place is to install a "Language Pack." We're using version 5.5, and need to add French, and then probably European Spanish later too.

Can somebody point me (and all other DNN/Localization newbies) to the "Getting started with Language Packs" documentation?

Many thanks in advance! :)

you may download "Localization Architecture" and "Module Localization Guide" from here: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/BooksandDocumentation/ProjectandTechnicalDocumentation/tabid/478/Default.aspx
Note: this doesn't cover new "Content Localization" bits in DNN 5.5 and above.

Thanks Sebastian.

My designer (she's much more familiar w/ DNN than me) did notice that previously, but it's for version 1.0.11. Is it still relevant after so many major version changes?

Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "...this doesn't cover new "Content Localization" bits in DNN 5.5 and above..." (my newbie-ness).

Also, this, and the other document that I've been able to find, doesn't come right out and explain how you add the alternate, localized content to the page.

Some follow up. I just learned that DNN started supporting ML in version 3.x, so I assume that the ver. 1.0.11 in the document refers to the version of the document itself. I've briefly reviewed the doc, and it doesn't state which DNN version it applies to.

Also, while I have installed a Language Pack successfully (I think), what I'm flummoxed on, is *how* to add content. When I go to Admin / Languages, I see 2 languages listed, in a grid, with columns for "Static Resources."

What I've noticed in reviewing various web pages on the subject, is that I should also see columns for "Content Localization"

What do I need to do to make those columns available? (Or, to beg the original question, is there a "getting started" guide that focuses on *how* to add multiple languages more than the behind-the-scenes architecture)?

Again, thanks for any advice or help!

Kevin, you are not quite correct. DNN 3 started supporting static localization, i.e. labels, command and help texts. For multilingual sites, you need to use 3rd party enhancements, unless you are willing to struggle with new "content localization" feature in DNN 5.5 and above (which is not ready for productions yet, IMHO). There are 3 well know solutions for ML sites, all by DNN core team members: EALO (Ealo.codeplex.com), DLLocalizator (dnn.tiendaboliviana.com) and TabLocalization by www.apollo-software.nl. All require to modify skin and use supported menu components, as well as multilingual modules, which are avaliable from those developers (and can be mixed) as well as others like dnnwerk.de, bring2mind.net, ...
