Hi guys

I don't understand what the radio buttons for "system", "host" and "site" mean when editing language resources.

I need to know why and when I should edit the separate files.

thanks
Rachel

The host  is the original files for the language.
The site files are the language files for your site.

So if you are translating to a new language and making a language package for that language you should use the host option.
If you just like to change a text for the site you should use the site option.

Sorry I forgot system in fact my previos answer was wrong.

System is origonal files. New language packs.
Host is files for all sites in the portal.
Site is files for that site.

to be more explicit: "System" are files from the original language pack, provided by the core or extension developer, containing all translatable files. Using "host" or "site" option, a superuser or admin may adjust text for his own usage in all portals or current portal only, which don't get overwritten on upgrades (!). Typical examples are Terms of Use and Privacy Statement, which should always be adopted to reflect the use case of the current site.
