I am struggling right now to understand the best course of action to take regarding localization.

I have tried to use the new localization features within the DNN core, but I now see that they create more headaches than they solve.

So I have tried to use the EALO module. I have no idea if this works, since when I create a page, then use the EALO tab localization module to give it an alias, when I then go to the page, switch the language, I see that the DNN core localization steps in and automatically creates an alternate tab for me.

How can I stop it from doing that?

Unfortunately, enabling this feature is a rough one way road. Undoing it might be possible in the database but requires a lot of knowledge on DNN data structure. Restoring a previous backup would be the easiest solution.

When you create a new page, you can see some options abt Localization (bottom of page).
There you can "Select whether this is a culture neutral page which is the same in all languages or should have localized versions for each language."
I think this way you can create a single page and not a localized duplicate.

Dimitris is right - but you have to remember for every new page, if you are using a different solution. Besides, there are a couple of features acting different in the DNN framweork with CL turned on. IMHO, if you just started, restarting from scratch is preferable.
