I have one problem. I would like to add a new language Greenlandic. But this language is not in the drop-down menu for adding a new language.
I'm using DNN 3.1.1

Anyone know how to add a new entry for a new language ?

Greetings from Greenland.

If a language is not included in the dropdown list of languages it means it is not supported by ASP.NET. This list includes all languages defined, so all languages which you can use to build a "CultureInfo" object, the means by which the localization features work.

Take a look a this page for the supported languages. I'm not sure there's a workaround to solve this.

BTW, where is Greenland and where can we find more info about Greenlandic? Just to know a bit more.

Hi !

Greenland - is the largest island in this little planet :o) Little info at www.greenland.com

Greenland is recorded in the ISO list over country list.
GREENLAND = GL at http://www.iso.org/iso/en/prods-services/iso3166ma/02iso-3166-code-lists/list-en1.html

Well maybe ASP.NET is not as great as it seems to be

Have a nice day.

furthermore, the 2 letter iso 639 language code for Greenlandic is "kl", see here: http://www.w3.org/WAI/ER/IG/ert/iso639.htm. Isn't this just a Windows problem? I tried to find the locale kl-GL or even just the language kl in the language preference of Internet Explorer, but could not find it.. unless i overlooked it, its not there either.

i fear we will have to wait till asp.net 2.0 for this, see this article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/05/10/Globalization/default.aspx

Maybe this is a good thing to put on the localization todo list: add an interface to create custom locales/cultures....

cheers,

Ouch, I feel a bit stupid now... I'm not that ignorant! Just it was a bit early on the morning and my brain were still sleeping ;)  In fact, we call that island Groenlandia so isn't that different... my appologies.

Erik,
I've also read about custom cultures creation but I'm not that sure this is an option in most cases.

asp.net 2 documentation
Note that a custom culture can be registered on a computer only by a user who has administrative rights on that computer. Consequently, typical applications cannot create a custom culture. Instead, use the CultureAndRegionInfoBuilder class to build a tool that an administrator can use to create and register a custom culture. After the custom culture is registered on a computer, use the CultureInfo class to create an instance of the custom culture just as you would a predefined culture.

Cannot find the exact place where I read this, but these need to be installed in the GAC.
So you will be able to define new cultures? Yes, but this is not a dnn related task, but an asp.net framework customization. And only available in selected places where you have admin rights.
