I may be missing something here, but I want people to be able to view the portal from the web without logging in. If they want to add content or whatever they can register and login right?

The portal has a login system so why is it prompting me with a windows login when I try and access the site from anywhere but the server DNN resides on?

Is there a line I can comment out on the web.config to disable this "feature" ?

Thanks

Yes, what you are looking for is "mixed-mode".   The only difference (in settings) between "mixed-mode" and a fully integrated system is that you leave this line commented out:

<!-- add name="Authentication" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.AuthenticationModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Authentication" / -->

How do I setup Forms only mode.

 I dont want network users to be automatically logged in. Whether they login from within the network or from home they can login with Domain\userId and there password. I also want general users to be able to browse the site without having to login. Also if a new network user tries to log in. The ADSI will pull their user info and role info into the portal as a new user.

This is how we had it working in v2.x and v3.2, now we are upgrading to v4.5.3 and want to keep the same AD functionality.
Any guidence will be helpful, thanks!

Shuzo, just follow the intructions in the pinned post at the top of the forum except do not uncomment the <add name="Authentication....../>. You'll have the AD functionality that you currently have.
