I am running DNN 4.7.0 on Win 2003 Server, IIS6.0 (server is fully patched).

I am unable to configure the AD Authentication module due to the following error:

Active Directory Settings

Error: is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory.Settings.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

This happens on page load. The Authentication type dropdown is blank - so it failed to load the different authentication types. I am up against a pretty tight deadline and need to get this fixed asap. Can someone please help me figure out what to do?

TIA,

John

Cheers!

My apologies John. I was busy at work today and didn't get a notification from the forum about your post (I've got it set to send me notifications on all posts but sometimes it's hit and miss ).

Anyways, on to your problem. Is this an upgraded from DNN 3 or early DNN 4 install or is it a fresh install? If it's a fresh install then you probably need to use impersonation in your web.config (I explain how in the documention on the Project download page). If it's an upgrade let me know and I'll let you know where to look tomorrow (I'm not near my development system to relay exactly what to change).

Thanks Mike!! I upgraded this website from 3.0.13. The site used to use the original (pre-core) AD authentication module. Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks again,

Cheers!

This should fix the problem. Open up the ModuleSettings table in the database and look for the SettingName AD_ProviderTypeName. I suspect that the SettingValue is wrong and should be changed to DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory.ADSI.ADSIProvider, DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory.

Hey, thanks Mike. You were right about the database field being wrong and it did indeed fixed my page load error. I'll be sure to let you know if I run into any other issues. I really appreciate your help on this one!

Why doesn't the link appear in the admin menu for managing the AD Settings?

Cheers!
