Hello All

I just installed the AD plugin .03 Beta version and all went well. According to this link:  http://www.dotnetnuke.com/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=Vx0jVFSKdQM%3D&tabid=852&mid=2418, it asks me to enter my domain username and password in the web config file which I think is a security risk.

Anyway, there are two things I would like to do.

1. Allow all users on the intranet domain to get to the dotnetnuke website without having to login at all. Which means once they log in to the network, they should be able to get on to the website.

2. After following the set up instructions in the link above I can no longer log in to the dotnetnuke website. I tried using my domain\username and password and that didn't work. I tried the Administrator and Superuser accounts and they would not work either.

I can no longer login to my website. Can someone please tell me what i've done wrong?

Thanks heaps,

Derek

Derek,

 1) Thats exaclty what this module does

  2) If you can no longer login as the host or admin account that usually points to your Machine Keys found in the web.config file being changed (you probably overwrote them by replacing the web.config file, they are used to encrypt/decrypt the passwords stored in the database) If you have done that search the forums for work around answers to hack in by changing some database values OR just start over and reinstall.

Last try not putting in a username and password in the Authentication settings and see if it works. It will then try and use the web server accounts credentials which in some networks can talke to the AD.

I don't much like having to put a domain username/password into the web.config but it is what it is. I've always used an account that had very limited rights on the domain so that even if it was comprimised no damage could be done. Also in the instructions it doesn't say you have to enter it but that you might have to enter it.

As for not being able to log in. I think a misstep may have been made somewhere along the line. When you click on the Login on your skin are you getting a window that has both Standard Login and Windows Login? If worse comes to worse you can comment out the <add name="Authentication"..... /> in the <httpModules> section and it will disable the provider so that it's not trying to automatically login.

thanks heaps for your replies guys, much appreciated.

I commented out this line in my web.config file: <add name="Authentication" type="DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory.HttpModules.AuthenticationModule, DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory" />-->but I still can't log in to the site with my admin and super user accounts I created when I did a typical install.

I would love to get the site to work with the Active Directory accounts on the network, that would be so cool.

Is there a tutorial available online that will show me what to do step by step?

Thanks again.

Derek

Just the documentation that you referenced earlier in your first post. When you setup the AD provider did you disable the DNN Authentication Settings under Admin->Authentication? When you try to login manually are you seeing both a Standard and Windows Login button? If you are make sure that Standard is selected when you try to login.
