In a heterogeneous and cross-platform production environment, the LDAP authentication is the only best authentication solution. But there is no such function in DNN yet. So,

Advice: DNN should have a LDAP authentication provider!

Agreed! I have been looking for a long time for such a provider.

Q: the current AD provider can be used with a simple LDAP (but not AD)?

I can't argue that there should be an LDAP provider but as of yet nobody has written one for the current (DNN 4.6.0 and up) provider framework. The joy of an open source project is that anyone can write code for it and put it out there for the masses to use.

Catalin, I'm not understanding your question.

Thank you for answering.

I asked if the current Active Directory provider could be used with a LDAP server installed on Linux (this is not Active Directory).

Okay now I understand. And the answer is "No". It's an Active Directory provider so it needs to talk to a Windows AD server.
