How can I allow certial registered users to create albums and upload photos without having too much rights to the module? I manage a RC club site http://sfdorc.com and I want to allow our club members to upload their pictures.

The current version (4.03.00) of the Gallery does not support the granular custom permissions that you would need for such a use case. Any user role which will be uploading files needs Edit permission on the module. You can delegate the management of and upload of files into a particular child album by setting the Is Private checkbox in the gallery configuration, assigning ownership of the top level gallery to a particular user who will then be able to create child albums and assign ownership of each child album to a particular user. The owner of a child album will then be able to upload and edit files and create sub-child albums. Not an ideal arrangement as it will require much manual administration by the top level gallery owner.

The Gallery project team is re-organizing to begin work on MediaGallery5 which will be a complete re-write of the current module and along with more granular custom permissions for each gallery operation, will allow control of ownership and sharing access level of each media file and media collection. Our target is to release within the next 12 months - but you may want to look into other gallery modules that are more oriented to social network type sites.
