Hello,

Is there a database table where the data for gallery is kept or is it only _metadata.resources xml file?

as far as I remember it is only the XML file.

If I have many pictures and I want to change the categories of pictures / folders easier then i should be able to edit the file _metadata.resources and move the pictures/thumbs.

I tried to download locally, open the xml file _metadata.resourcesm edit and upload again in different folder already newly created folder. Also, i moved all the pictures and thumbnails but nothing worked out. They don't change in the gallery interface in the browser. Everything seems alright in the _metadata.resources file and pictures.

Any advice?

I have done the same thing as you...directly edit the XML file in _Metadata.  As I remember, I had to restart the DNN application to get the changes to take effect.  Also, check the event log to ensure that you have not inadvertently made a small (dumb?) mistake in editing the XML file.

I would suspect caching - clearing the cache and / or restarting the AppPool as Hans suggests should do the trick.
