Hi all,

after a long search around the Web, I have learnt that this strange behaviour of the text editor had been fixed in recent versions. However you do not need to upgrade to a more recent version to have it fixed under your DNN install (this is however not suggested since the provider will not support it out of the box).

The fix should be made in the fckconfig.js file: there is a FillEmptyBlocks setting that should be set to false, like this:

FCKConfig.FillEmptyBlocks    = false ;

I am testing this on my test environment and had it working fine, but everybody should consider this change very carefully before applying it on a production install. Many thanks should be made to M Bouwman for finding this.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

Even setting this to false still results in a paragraph block inserted into the summary block on mine.  I cleared cache, restarted application, etc. Any ideas?

Hi Joiseystud,

remember that you will find that config file in three places under your install:

  1. One here: [dnnroot]\Providers\HtmlEditorProviders\Fck\FCKeditor\fckconfig.js
  2. One here: [dnnroot]\Providers\HtmlEditorProviders\Fck\Custom\fckconfig.js
  3. And the last here: [dnnroot]\Providers\HtmlEditorProviders\Fck\FCKeditor\editor\_source\internals\fckconfig.js

I successfully tested the fix on my test environment only fixing the first two. Let me know if fixing all of the instances solves your issue.

Best regards,
Dario Rossa

That did the trick.  I changed it in the first two as well.  I could not locate that info in the last file. Thanks a million Dario.

Hi Dario,

I think this has fixed this vexing issue for me! Thanks! I had to dig to figure this out in terms of this http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/127/threadid/196668/scope/posts/threadpage/2/Default.aspx with the p to div change.

I also had to change the fckconfigsecure.js in the custom folder as well with that other issue so did it here as well. I did not see the FCKConfig.FillEmptyBlocks line in the \editor\_source\internals\fckconfig.js you mention above.

I have spent so much time dealing with client issues around this kind of FCK editor stuff. Has anyone tried one of the others? CuteEditor or something else? Telerik? It should not be this hard. There needs to be a better "control center" for FCK and also when you make these changes they should not be overwritten everytime you upgrade.

I still have this issue with FCK and a skin I am using that no one has answered after several bumps. You tell me what to do there and I will buy you a Maine lobster when you are up here!

Thanks,

Will Sugg
