Our situation is we have a Sales blog and a Support blog.  We can't assign groups to be able to update the blog so we have created a Sales user and Support user to own the blogs.  The proper people have the username/password for these accounts so they can go in and make blog posts (I know, not ideal but if we can't assign a blog to a group of users we assign a group of user to a login instead).

The problem is it is a live site and we want to have things approved before they go live.  I've seen some modules that do this for the text modules, but haven't found one for blogs.  There is a setting for moderating comments on a blog.  But what about moderating the actual blog posts?  Is there anyway to do that, or another blogging module that allows it?

Since you're already trusting bloggers with a shared acocunt, can you also trust them to set blogs to "Unpublished" and let a moderator change it to "Published" once approved?

Or, if you use "Pub / Unpub" to distinguish between "Finished / Unfinished":
Could your bloggers change the year to something like "2222" to show the article is not yet published (this will prevent it from showing up in the list of blog postings).  Once the writer has changed the posting from "Unpublished" to "Published", a moderator "approves" it by changing the year back to the current year and, thus, exposing the posting.

Hardly the solution you were hoping for, I know, but it could help for now while you figure out a permanent solution with true moderation features.

Nice idea Mamlin, but the problem is people can get lazy and just publish something with the correct date and it's out there.  I'm thinking of a slight "hack" to the code.  I'm going to remove the publish check box for all users that are not a member of a certain group.  This lets people make entries but they can't make it 'live' because the publish option is not there for them.  The approvers have the check box and they will review all posts and check/uncheck publish accordingly.

I haven't looked at the code yet, but I think it will just be a simple if statement for it.

if user belongs to group then

cbPublish->visible = true

end if

Haven't looked at the code yet, but that's the idea.  Might even add a drop down in the blog settings so the approver role can be selected rather than hard coded.  That should get me going for a while until a real solution is created.

You might want to take a look at the Ventrian News Articles module.  It allows for moderation and depending on what your "Blog" format is, it could work for you.
