Did anyone of you guys and girls try/consider to implement the standard DNN Blog module as an Article module? If yes, can you tell me your conclusions about this solution?

It seem that, with some arrangement work, Blog could work as a general news/articles module... Or are there any obstacles?

I'm sure you could use the core blog module for articles, but why would you want to do this? At some point you are going to need different functionality and it won't make sense for blogs and then you either have to port your data or accept that it is a blog and not an articles module.

I use the core blog on Smart-Thinker for blogging, and Scott's Article module. There is a very fine line from a user point of view - but my requirements may change in the future.

You ask, why would I want to do this? I ask: Why not, if it works? Blog is a core module, I don't have to pay anything for it, I don't have to renew subscription to get new versions etc.

My point is that it may work now, but what if your requirements change or the modules functionality diverges? It may be a lot of work to separate it then...

If it is a cost issue then have a look at the core Announcements module - I believe this is going to be the core "Articles" type module.

Core Announcement module was among my first candidates, but soon I realized that it is too simple and it doesn't allow for categories - then (to my surprise) I found that core Blog would make much more powerful and versatile news/articles than core Announcement...
