If you have a copy of the datafile you attach, for a backup you restore over the old DB.

For the file:
Simply copy them in the new folder, check the settins for IIS (like for an install) and you ready

ErikVB just wrote a blog on moving a DNN install

Ok So If I follow the following steps I should be able to be up and running

1- copy database to new server
2- attach database ( do I change the dbo owner from old server to new server  and also user ?)
3 - copy the dnn 4 website directory
4- set ils to point to the new directory
5- modigy webconfig files so that it points to the database with the dbo owner
6 try it out

are these the correct steps and am I missing anything ?
Thanks
Mark

if the URL of the site on the new server is exactly the same as the URL of the site on the old server, then you will be fine, otherwise, you would have to manually add the proper alias in the restored db (in table PortalAlias). You would need to do that somewhere between step 2 and 6 (at any rate prior to your first visit to the restored site)
