I'm trying to override the standard hyperlink action with JavaScript.

I have a HyperLink control in my module, and I would like to call a JavaScript function when the hyperlink is clicked. I got this far, but what happens is that after the JavaScript function completes (returns false) the page navigates to the URL in the HyperLink control. I would like to cancel the navigation.

This is the control definition:
Click Me

This is the HTML that's rendered on the client:
Click Me

Any ideas?

I tried that.
The problem I'm running into is that I change the NavigateUrl property of the HyperLink control at runtime. This causes the resulting href of the rendered anchor to look like this:
href="DesktopModules/Company.Module/#" instead of just href="#".

The same thing happens when I put the function name in the NavigateUrl property. The href looks like this:
href="DesktopModules/Company.Module/SomeJavaScript()"

This always results in an error...

HyperLink1.NavigateUrl = this.Request.Url + "?#";

Add this into your code... ASP.Net Controls try to Resolve the URLS of relative paths of your properties.  So doing this you specify directly the page of your request and add the ?# parameter. The ResolveURL of the control returns thus the specified path and doesn't try to rersolve it :-)

Otherwise you can still use a <A> tag that runs on the server side :-)

Good luck ;-)

This works, but reloads the page. I'm looking to cancel the postback action.

Using a instead of a HyperLink actually works great :-)

Thanks for your help.
