Hi!  I am attempting to install DNN 4.5.1 on a Windows 2003 Standard edition server using SQL 2005 Enterprise (running in a cluster environment) as the backend.  I have file permissions and my database connection is successful - but I, too, am experiencing the "non-experience" of installing the database scripts.  The install seems to run - the little squares at the top of the installation box turn red - but I get the following message:

Installing Database - Version 4.4.0...undefined...Success
Installation of Database Complete

And the Next button just sends me back to the same page so I can loop through the process again... and again... and again...

I have not seen any recent solutions to this issue in the forums; has anyone managed to get beyond this?  I have played with my connection settings, changed "initial catalog=" to "database=", tried to do auto, typical and custom installs... nada.  My next step is to delete the SQL database and recreate it (and give everyone dbo_owner permissions to that db, just in case).  Does anyone else have any ideas?

Thank you for your help with this!

Liz

I had the same exact problem...and fixed it.  :-)

In my case the issue was related to the user account DNN used to access the database not having sufficient permissions.

Try looking at the following:

  1. Login to MSSQL server with Server Management Studio
  2. In Object Explorer navigate\expand "Security\Logins"
  3. Check the permissions for the account DNN is using.

Hope this helps.

That did it!  I had blown away the database but hadn't gotten around to rebuilding it yet.  I ended up setting the SQL account as "owner" of the DotNetNuke database and that seems to have taken care of the problem.

What seems odd to me is that after creating the database and running into problems, I had gone back and modified permissions for that account - but I don't think I made it the owner.  Obviously that was the one thing missing!

Thanks again for your help with this problem!

Liz

You have to create a schema with the same name of the user, and define it as default schema for your DNN user. This worked for me, with a user that's not the dbo of database. I hope you fix the problem.

I'm having this same problem (a recent one).  My user IS the database owner and everything seems fine.  The SQL server has a login role (3dsmaxzone) and the database itself has a database user (3dsmaxzone) which was auto-created after I made the login role and set its permissions to db_owner of the database.  "Public" and "db_owner" are the users permissions.

But it doesnt make a difference.  Same error--

Installing Database - Version 4.4.0...undefined...Success
Installation of Database Complete

I hit next and it just repeats the process, reporting success.

Any ideas?  All of my sites are running under Plesk and Windows 2003 Server but this is a custom "straight from VS2005" build, which should run flawlessly after a quick web.config edit.

Thanks for any help!
