I did some testing on your site ... thanks for the logon it really helps!

the problem is not only for small files. I did a test with a larger file (256k) and then when I downloaded it, it only downloaded 226k and was corrupted. So our previous assumption that this was a problem only for small files is incorrect. It's a problem will all files.

I checked the source code again for the download function and compared it to the core function for downloading (which the file manager uses) and I'm using the same technique. the code is the same. I honestly don't understand why the download would work fine via the file manager. The only difference I can see is that the core function sets the response header ContentType equal to the file extension, while in the Repository I set the ContentType to "application/octet-stream".

Honestly, though, the problem looks, smells and feels like a compression issue. Maybe your host has some compression software running, so that even though your DNN site has compression off, there is still some compression being applied to the download stream. Any way for you to check with your host? The other thing that makes me go 'hmmm', is that the physical path to your web site includes the "@" character. While it may be valid, I've seen special characters cause some issues in the past. Again, I'm not sure why it works via the file manager.

I can package up a version of the Repository where I set the ContentType to the file extension and we can see if that helps in your situation. If that's okay with you, I can do that later tonight.

You site is compressed. Check this:

http://www.port80software.com/products/httpzip/compresscheck?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdeclic-video-fx.com.ultima4.net%2F&Submit1=Check+Compression

You can see if your hosting provider is able to restrict some url from that compression.

(I already checked that you don't have the DNN compression enabled, so this is produced by your server)

Steve:

You are right, the file are "reduced" by size. I know why I did not see the problem with big files: the 'hfz' files are some kind of "zip files" for video, which includes objects and images. That's strange, the file downloaded does not contain image (it is lighter of course / but this file can still be used and I did not notice it ). ==> reduction of filesize when downloading with repository, for sure !

Have you seen that it works well with the DOCUMENT module ?? Check my dev site (the one I give you creditetial) - I added your file of 256 ko to the document module, check and try downloading it, you will see that it is ok, the file size of the downloaded one is correct
==> It is linked to the download mechanism of the Repository (it also works with the File Manager).

For the " @ " in my path, I agree with you, I asked two times my provider to do something : IMPOSSIBLE they answered...

For the package you propose (modifying content type extension), I would like to test it, YES please. With pleasure if you can provide it to me. I have a lot of confidence in this solution, it may solve ALL my problem !!!!

Locopon:

Congratulations for this discovery !!! I take note of it, maybe this is the problem and may cause trouble hen downloading. I will check with my hosting provider.

THANKS to all of you for the effort, without you, I can just forget publishing my website and doing something else, like gardening for example...

Now, I will:
1- Contact my hosting provider to see if it is possible to de-activate the compression on my site (even temporary to check)
2- Test the modify repository as soon as you give it to me.
3- Contact my hosting provider to check if it is possible temporary to remove the @ and make some check

 CONGRATULATIONS Locopon !!!

It was the problem (compression)... My hosting provider disable the compression, and the site is running well (I can download the files !!!). That's incredible.
Now, I need your advice (again), to find the best solution. Living without server compression is maybe not the best solution. I have few options:
- excluding some URLs (maybe not the best solution)
- excluding some file type
- excluding some URL which contain special words (linkclik ? fileticket ?)

What is your opinion ??? Thanks to ALL of you who helped me, I was about to give up, sincerely...

I highly recommend you check out PageBlaster (www.Snapsis.com)  that should help with your performance since you can exclude the pages you're having issues with.

Do you use Oracle?  Then try GoldFish.Net

Get it from CNET Download.com!
