I'm not sure if anyone else has encountered this problem, but I had to add additional permissions in order for the portal 0 folder and files to be created. To summarize my situation:

* I'm using the 4.0.2 starter kit in Visual Studio 2005

* I'm installing to a HTTP remote location (Windows Server 2003) rather than a local file system location.

* The site builds correctly in VS 2005.

* I give the NETWORK SERVICES account full control over the remote DNN folder.

The problem occurs when install.aspx runs. Everything works correctly except that I receive an access denied error when the script attempts to create subfolder 0 in the Portals folder.

To correct the problem, I had to add a web.config file to the Installs subdirectory with an identity tag:

<identity impersonate="true"

userName="anadminuser"

password="anadminpassword"/>

Did anyone else encounter this problem and is there a better solution?

Thanks,
Grant.

Hi Grant. I am afraid that I do not have an answer for you as I have not got quite that far. I notice, though, that you said you give full permission to the whole she-bang. Is this a good idea?

I am just installing and I am trying to set the permissions specified in the documentation. Unfortunately, the folder names that are specified do not match the installation folders.

So, maybe that is why you just did a blanket full permission?

But maybe someone can help me identify the correct permissions? And maybe this will help you.

The default root is Website - so I give Read (and optionally Write and Modify) to NETWORK SERVICE?

This then propogates downwards and then it has access to all? Is this correct?

Thanks,

Bill Ross
