OK. . after umpteen installs, there is only one thing I definitely know for sure... It is absolutely possible to install on the root of godaddy. But, after each install I am never able to get more than the same 5 modules. I have applied the permissions to the image folder, but still no luck. So..I am now thinking I am just going to have to upload these modules. Unfortunately, I am not successful in doing so and am always met with an error. The upside is that I think this is operator error because I am not exactly sure what the steps are in doing so. I have read the online manual, but there isn't enough information there for me to pinpoint where I may be going wrong.  Any advice?

Michael, you wouldn't happen to have any walk through's on this process out there floating around would you???

Anyhow, like others, I too am amazed by the amount of community support and am glad I have chose to use DotNetNuke. Not so glad about GoDaddy, but hopefully I will soon get over this obstacle.

Sorry, don't have any walk throughs for uploading modules yet.  I will add it to the list (getting to be a big list...).  I haved a project underway that I plan to complete over the weekend that will really help with installing on Go Daddy and hosts with similiar issues.  Once that one is done I will tackle some more walk throughs.

What is the error you are receiving?  If you can take a screen shot that would be good, then email me through my site and I will respond so that you can send me the image.

If you download the docs from the download page and look at the Installation guide, there are instructions on how to install modules.  Basically you take all of the zip modules out of the root/install/modules Folder that are loaded on your server and load it up with the zips of the modules you want to install you run the command that is in the installation guide.  I don't have it with me right now but it is something like www.mydomain.com/Install/Install.aspx?mode=InstallResources.  Don't quote me on that, go look at the manual, but I used it yesterday to install the forum module.

I finally did it...I really really did it! I am installed, on the root of godaddy with all my modules!!! Man...what an experience that was! All of the zip files were not in my install/module folder and obviously that is why I was not getting the modules to show up. I know this sounds obvious, but being a dnn newbie, I was not familiar with the directory structure and so this didn't jump out at me right at first. I actually had wondered about it prior, but dismissed it easily because I was getting 5 modules installed.  Anyhow, now that I have done this and have learned what I have over the last week and a half, I would agree with Michael, it really is actually easy. I think what makes this so hard is that all the information is just not in once place.

Well, I don't have as much hair as I did 8 or 9 days ago, but I am much better for the experience. I am so excited to finally get to work on my site! Sincere thanks to everyone who has participated in the last 42 pages of this thread. I couldn't have done it without you!!

Could we please get a recap of your main points on how to install on the root?  I am thinking about doing another install and  would like to know what is different about installing on the root versus the tradional path so many of us have been doing.
