When you copied your sqlserver settings over to the new web.config

Ehm, oops?
I did nothing of the kind. All I did was perform the upgrade procedure - consisting of unpacking the upgrade package - after which the original web.config was still in place.
What did I do wrong?

That's close but not quite how you should perform the upgrade. Here are the steps I follow when upgrading.

1.) Unpack the upgrade package.
2.) Rename my web.config to something else (web.config.resources)
3.) Rename release.config to web.config
4.) Copy the connection strings and machine keys from the old web.config to the new web.config
5.) Hit the site and let it perform the upgrade procedure.

upgrading from 455 (I think... where do you find the current installed version?) to 4.06.02, I followed the steps mikeh suggested. The site just gave a nasty error after the upgrade, and refused to run. I restored the entire site from backup, and all is well again.

I have a pretty much standard 455 install, with just one skin added.

Is there something else needs doing? Is this upgrade worth figuring out the problem or should I just wait?

You can find the version of dotnetnuke that you are running. Login with superuser account  (host) and in the host menu, in the first option - Host Settings...you have a label with the Dotnetnuke Version used...

Thanks for the info. I tried that, and now I can't get that page. When I menu to the Host->host page, I get an error:

Error: Host Settings is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\dnn\admin\Host\FriendlyUrls.ascx.vb(44): error BC30560: 'RewriterRuleCollection' is ambiguous in the namespace 'DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Config'. ---> System.Exception:

I think this was working before I tried to upgrade to 4.06

ANyone know what I should do to fix it? I've tried restarting the webserver, that didn't help. Everything else appears to be working though...
