Hi Michael,

I am also getting this "WindowsSignin.aspx should NOT allow anonymous access" error, even though I turned anonymous access off before I tried to access this page for the first time.  I've seen several posts about people having this error message, but havent seen any solution posts yet.  Do you have any idea?  Manual login works fine.  I am using IIS 5.1 on XP, and the DC is windows 2003.  DNN is 4.8.1.

Thanks,

JK.

Solved it .. turns out there were two virtual directories pointing at the same DNN install.  I turned anon off for WindowsSignin.aspx on the other one and it is all ok now.

Thanks, JK.

Hey JK. It's hard for me to give a solution for a problem that I can't recreate. However, in one of my email conversations with another user who was having a similar problem I created a test web application that helped point him in the right direction. I've just posted the test application on my website (http://dnn.gmss.org/ADProviderBetas.aspx). Follow the instructions in the readme.

As a result of him using the test website he was able to find that he needed to patch his server (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/871179) and change some settings in IE7 and I quote from his email to me:

All working now thanks for you help, IE6 works perfectly however in IE7 there is an option which has to be enabled

Tools > Internet Options > Security > Local Intranet > Custom Level > Scroll right to the bottom of Settings > Select "Automatic logon with current username and password" > Click Ok > Click Ok

And works perfectly

Hi, I have been playing with windows authentication since past few days, with success with one feature and failure with other :)

Information on all the related forums were very useful. I think I have read almost all the forums related to Now finally I am able to make it work. But I still have some problems. I have IE6 on my computer. I made changes to the settings as suggested by Mike in previous mail. In some forums I have read that people are having problem with Mozilla and workks fine with IE. I have an opposite problem.

When I open the site on IE6, it prompts me for username/ password. I provide it like domainname\username and password. It asks me 3 times and then fails. In case of mozilla, its behavior is random ie sometimes ask for password, sometimes doesn't, but it works for mozilla. Can, anyone suggest how can I make it work on IE? I will really appreciate quick help.

Also, I don't want my site to prompt for login in any case, neither on IE nor on Mozilla.

Other thing I want is a work around for logout incase I need to login as host, is there any solution for that.

Thank you very much in advance. You can also email me at divya@hea.biz

I'll start with Mozilla because it's the easiest to answer. As long as the cookie has expired it's going to ask for a username/password. There's no way around it as it doesn't pass the users credentials properly.

Now for IE.... do you have the site in either the Intranet Sites or Trusted sites list when you go to Control Panel->Internet Options? That's all you should have to do though I'm not sure why it would be asking you three times.

I'm not sure what you mean about a work around for logout. Are you not able to? Did you setup the provider/web.config like shown in the documentation?
