Hi

I Just tried updating my source from 4.4 to 4.8 and noticed that the dataprovider sub projects have gone and the sqldataprovider.vb files have generally moved into the provider projects themselves.  I could not find any reference to this in the DNN change log and the documentation is still 4.4, so does not mention this change.

My question is, how does DNN work out which dataprovider to use if you are not using MSSQL?

Thanks

Michael

Generally speaking you can specify which provider you are using via the Web.config file.

The sqlDataprovider projects were merged with the parent project as there is a performance hit for each assembly loaded.

Also, in ASP.NET 2 and later the BuildManager does not require you to specify the assembly for the providers to be instantiated so DNN "loads" the default provider as specifed in web.config, so there is no longer any requirement to put the concrete provider in a separate assembly from the abstract provider.
