There is Scheduler documentation up there, thanks.  Just an FYI for anyone who stumbles across this thread with a similar issue, I just found an enabled task associated with a module I had uninstalled.  I deleted the task and my Scheduler is now enabled, and without the whole pesky "crashing the site" business!

Besides DNN docs, you should get some good insight from this post:

I doubt your issue is with the scheduler itself but is more likely due to one of the processes initiated by the scheduler.

Aha....just as I suspected!  Too bad I didn't get my last reply in a little sooner....  :)

I had this exact same problem. Changing it back to 0 fixed it. Maybe there should be a code change to fix the problem.
