We have noticed a number of Indexes fail to rebuild.

Do you have access to the DNN database running your portal?.  Can you check these indexes listed in this thread ..

Interested to know, is the case with your circumstances.

Cheers,

Could you use your live system as a sandbox localy?   It can clear if it is a issue in the code or is it happend with the using of the shared sql server by your hoster.  Some issue can be a big event log in your portal and /or a big SQL log file in your database with database size restriction.

Thanks for your reply.  The SQL Server 2008 Express is running on our Windows 2003 R2 x64 server.  We regularly maintain the db, the log file such as Eventlog, Sitelog and ScheduleHistory by truncating those tables.   The DNN database does not have a size limit and generally sits a 150MB with 10% growth. We're interested in your database?  What is the current status of fragmentation for these indexes ?

Are those indexes regularly reorganized and/or rebuilt.

Any suggestions are appreciated

For reindexing on express edition you have to set the database offline and restart it.  Re-indexing by script is not supported from the express versions.

how much RAM do you provide for your SQL server. The machine should have reserved at least 1 GB for the SQL server.
