Nope, not that I'm aware of. I'm anxiously awaiting a fix.

I'm using DNN 06.02.00 and having the same issue of the default folder selected in setting not actually doing anthing. Users are begining to complain because the folder structure is becoming larger and more complex, and they want to default to the appropriate folder they need to upload to. They are not at all pleased that they have to navigate to the right folder before uploading. (I have very picky and lazy users).

This problem has existed now for three years according to the history of this thread, and still waiting a resolution. Any news that can be given regarding this?

I'm using DNN 6.2.2 and Documents 5.0.0 and I also have the default folder issue. It's a real pitty this issue doesn't get solved, because otherwise, the Documents module is a really usefull module:
Easy to configure and set up, and easy to use by editors.

But like I say, a pitty because of the default folder issue.
