Hi, i am a joomla user for years & just moved towards DNN (without any doubt) as both are one of the best solutions any developer can ever have.

But, quite amazingly, all the modules in the modules directory are commercial ones & hardly found any usefull free module, as in contrast with the joomla extensions community.

This definately will draw me back to joomla, just because of this reason only.

Modules like Knowledgebase, custon form, user profiles, to name a few, should have been provided to the DNN users by other developers & should have supported the community.

I do understand that it is fairly new CMS as compared to others, but still atleast a community of opensource developers could have come forward for the same.

Well, just a tought, anyway.

I keep a list of free modules here ,i've been v. busy lately so it's a few weeks out of date, but should get you started.

The main dotnetnuke.com modules list is being worked on at present, so it's quite fluid, though we still do need users to post details of their modules as we don't go out searching for them.

Cathal,

I use your module list non-stop.  I don't know where I would be without it!  Thanks so much for the resource.

I don't want to start a flamewar, here, but there is a difference between "free" and "open source".

I think there are plenty of open source modules provide for sale (and even for free) on snowcovered and at developer's sites.  Many developers (Scott McCulloch as one example) provide the modules for free, but ask you to pay a premium membership fee to the site.  Others sell the modules in both a "source code provided" manner and generally a cheaper "no source code" fashion.

But "open source" does not mean free... it means the source is open and available for modification.  In fact, one can argue that open source goes toward the licensing scheme, not the availability for fee.

My point is still untouched.

Lets take it in this way.

Can you develop a site with custom registration form, with a community of friends, with groups facility, without having to develop module on ur own or without purchasing any module?

you wont in DNN, but in many of the other CMS systems.

The long list free modules on CATHAL is just nothing but the list of Accesories, you can always do ur job without them.

I was so excited to make a move towards DNN, & was so dishearted to see that inspite of LARGE (may be maximum that any other programming language) number of dotnet developers, DNN is still deprived of free modules. No free CMS is complete without free modules, & these free modules comes from the indidual developers who have already faced problems & would like to help others.

The functionality of DNN to me is just limited or I should spend 100's of dollars to buy those expensive modules listed on snowcovered.com

I know many of u will not agree with my point, but thats wat i have experienced.

My project is still in suspended state
