I will be upgrading several webservers soon.
They are all running Windows Server 2003, SQL 2000 and DNN 3.2.2
The new webservers will be running Windows Server 2003, SQL 2005 and DNN version xxx

My first question would be whether I should upgrade DNN to v4.9 or v5.01?

My question is how best to proceed with the upgrade.
Can I move the 3.2.2 site to the new server running SQL2005 and then upgrade to DNN vXXX?
Or should I upgrade the site in place prior to moving it?

I have moved the DNN v3.2.2 sites several times with success and have done several new installs.
BUT - I haven't moved to v4 or v5 yet so this is new...

Thanks for the advice!
Doug

Check out this upgrade path blog post from Will Strohl

http://www.willstrohl.com/Blog/tabid/66/EntryId/102/Suggested-DotNetNuke-Site-Upgrade-Path-s.aspx

Personally, I would update to 4.9.4 (following the guidance from the post above)

I am running 5.1, but there are a few performance issues that should be fixed in the next release.

You can update on the new server or old server, doesn't really matter too much. Just be sure to backup everything before you attempt the upgrade.

You should follow the upgrade steps mentioned in Will's blog (I published an upgrade procedure here) and should upgrade to 4.9.4 for security reasons.

Eventhough the DNN download page states the 5.1 is recommended for production, do u suggest the latest version to upgrade to on a production environment is only 4.9.4?

Even though DNN 5.1.0 was released "ready for production", version 4.9.4 is the most stable version atm.
