William,

To answer your questions in order:

1.  To be honest, I'm not sure.  The page originally had 3 galleries in gallery module 3.0.1.  However, while the new gallery was in beta, I was experimenting with 3rd party photo gallery modules, and for at least one of them I had to clear off the existing modules and install the new product to get it to work.  Then, however, I refreshed my local database from the production site, which I think put me back to 3 galleries from v.3.0.1.  So I think what I see now are all upgrades from 3.0.1.

2.  The gallery displays just fine (except for the files I obviously have to rename), but the thumbnails have thick frames around them, despite being set to DNNSimple.  On the page with only one module there are no frames around the thumbnails, it's also DNNSimple.  That was also a 3.0.1 module which I upgraded.

3.  Event viewer is full of module errors from my last session a few days ago - mostly I think caused by either the old modules (object path not set to an instance) or the funky filenames under the upgraded modules (the given path's format is not supported).  I don't see any errors that seem to be related to the display theme.  It's displaying the galleries the same way today, and there are no errors in Event Viewer at all.

4.  Yes, it looks the same in all 4 browsers I have:  IE8, Firefox 3.5.5, Safari 4.0.3, and Chrome 3.0.195.33.

5.  I cleared the browser cookies with no effect.  The galleries are being displayed, they just aren't being displayed as configured.

6.  I wish it were a live site but it's on my laptop behind 2 firewalls.

I just did an experiment, since this is a test site.  I created a new page.  I added 3 new Gallery modules to the page, and pointed them to the same directories as the galleries on the original page.  Theme is DNNSimple.  They all look perfect, in all 4 browsers.  Apparently this is an artifact of upgrading a module from Gallery 3.0.1 to Gallery 4.3.0.   Presumably I can make the problem go away by removing the old galleries and reinstalling?  Is this something I need to report?

I've now upgraded my production site, since I didn't consider the inability to use DNNSimple a showstopper, although I'd like to use it.  I saw the same problem in production with DNNSimple that I had in test:  on a page with 3 gallery modules installed, upgraded from gallery 3.0.l, when I changed a gallery to use DNNSimple, it continued to display the DotNetNuke them.  However, I noticed that the 3 galleries seemed to be synchronized somehow:  when I went to page 4 on one gallery, all 3 galleries displayed page 4.  So I tried changing all 3 galleries to the DNNSimple theme - and it worked.  Now they ALL display in DNNSimple.  If you want to look at the site, the page is

Are they supposed to be linked like that??  I checked on my test site, and when I configured all 3 galleries to use DNNSimple, it worked.

There should be no interaction between multiple Galleries on the same page as their ModuleID's should all be different. I recall that in v 3.0.12, multiple Galleries in the same portal did interact, particularly when changing the theme, view or sort order. I am wondering if immediately following the upgrade of the Gallery module, there was some caching (browser or server) of the gallery configuration that made it appear that the theme could not be changed to the new DNN Simple or that the modules were interacting. Once the cached configuration expired, all was well.

As a test, you might try changing the theme of one of the gallery module's configuration back to the DotNetNuke theme then back to DNN Simple.

If it is a caching problem, it's still there.  I just changed the theme of one of the 3 modules to DotNetNuke, and immediately all 3 of them displayed the DotNetNuke theme.  I changed it back to DNNSimple, and all 3 galleries changed back.  How would I flush that cache?  I think that's in the host settings?  I wouldn't think a browser cache could do that, but I'm not an expert in browsers at all.  Also, this isn't a portal issue - I have 2 other galleries in this portal that aren't linked like this, but they are on different pages.  These 3, on the same page, are the only ones that do this.
