just noticed that DNN installations only recommend using  SQL server 2005/2008

- we are using sql server 2000, perhaps this could be why the search doesn't work properly ?

(we're running DNN 5.1 on framework 2.0)

further to the above,

I've noticed that on my DNN search it seems to only find words which were inputted from the first phase of development.

Is it possible that a search table can get full or stop working and stop indexing words after a certain date/time or event?

however, if anyone is interested....
i've since found a third party alternative to the DNN seach: a Google AJAX search with ‘in page’ results,

Mark,

there are known issues running DNN 5.1 on SQL Server 2000, and DNN 5.2 and above do support SQL 2005 and 2008 only.

Regarding the search issue, clear the search tables and restart indexing from host :: Search Admin. There has been issues with SearchitenWordPosition table exaggerating in DNN around versions 5.0 to 5.2.1, maybe your site is suffering from this as well.

thanks,

I've cleared the search tables successfully many times before and also re-indexed the content before too (and it failed to work in the past).

However, this time it worked!

Only things i did different were:
1. I left the maximum word length at 50 (was previously 5)
    - this resulted in more words indexed, although not all

2. Tried the above again, but direct from the actual server rather than via VNC connection.

Then it worked perfectly!!!

cheers!
