I need some opinions here please to work out if it is just my installation. I think DNN 4.9.5 ran a bit faster than 5.2.1 (I have just upgraded).

I have turned off PageBlaster for the time being while I resolve some issues but it would be good if it could run fast out the box. I read about a whole lot of performance optomisations in 5.x but I am not seeing them..

However, I thought it was acceptable but I just received this email from an irate user which ruined my day:

" G'Day,

I'm not able to use the PokerDIY application due to the unreliability of the system.

I've been unable to login due to DotNetNuke Errors.

Also when able to get in the system it seems dog slow.

Kind Regards"

Opinions please on speed (NOT issues)?

Rod,

I fear, the answer is a yes AND no - there have been minor improvements in the database access and caching, but permissions got additional options (affecting performance slightly), same for JS, but extremely for new Telerik support (loading a dll of additional 13 MB:

Anyhow, this should not affect typical users - check the page size and the environment involved for your user /(bowser type. connection speed, page size).

Good point re. the Telerik .dll size - I think it's finally time for me to go through the bin folder 1 dll at a time (268!!!) and get rid of anything that is not essential! Restarting the process takes ages to reload now.

I'll also try to get PageBlaster working again...  ("running like a dog" cut deep ;)

Can dnn still work without the Telerik dll? I don't plan to use it nor am I planning to use any third party modules.

Does/will the dnn framework use it internally?

I have now re-enabled PageBlaster and there is a still a massive speed difference in 4.x and 5.x.

For example - go to www.pokerdiy.com and click on Login.

It takes about 7 seconds to show the log in screen. In the old 4.x version (which I will try to get an old backup online soon) - it was almost instantaneous...
