How would you accomplish this in DotNetNuke 7?

Why not simply remove the DNN:User object from the skin?
You could also surround it with some code to ONLY display that object if the logged in user is an Admin (or host).

PS. Why would you want to prevent a user from updating their user profile?

Any idea where I may find this skin?

is it this one?: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\mysite\Portals\2\Skins\skin_v1

used Firebug to get the css... uncommented the link and nothing happened. the user can still edit there profile.

any other suggestions?

The reason why my client wants to remove this is because many users is given the same predefined Username and Password.

why they would want this .... im not sure.
