As a sponsor of DNN into a Government Department, I am embarrassed by the lack of documentation which would otherwise allow me to resolve some of the problems with AD in 3.2.2.  If DNN is to retain its position as a credible tool for corporate use, this is a critical issue.  After all we are talking about a module which is part of the CORE, not a module distributed by a keen community contributor.

That's my $0.02 worth.

Did you set up the information in Admin->Authentication yet?

No I can't establish the settings.   They are disabled.  It's a catch-22, I want to configure the settings for AD, but the system has disabled the settings.  Can anyone tell me what needs to be changed in web.config so that the settings are available to me.

Sorry, I missed this one somehow...  The default settings in the newer versions of DNN are pretty good right out of the box.  Leave the web.config file as it was originally, and make the changes in the Admin->Authentication menu.  Then, the only other thing to change is the premissions on the /DesktopModules/Authentication/Logon.aspx file.

Thanks for your reply.  Unfortunately it still won't allow me to set the Authentication.  I still get the message "The default authentication provider specified in web.config is not configured properly. Authentication settings are disabled".

1.  I tried without any changes to web.config (out of the box settings); and

2.  I uncommented the line "   <add name="Authentication" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.AuthenticationModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Authentication" />" in http modules.

Any ideas will be very much appreciated.  Thanks again for your help.

I am getting the same error message.  My install is an upgrade to 3.2.2 from 3.1.13 where I had a separate page with the authentication module on it from when I installed the old non core AD stuff.  The upgrade appeared to run fine but I have not got the menu item Admin>>Authentication.  I did a clean install of 3.2.2 and the menu item appeared and AD worked perfectly, but I don’t want to have to make all the changes to 3.2.2 I made to 3.1.13, so I could do with finding out what's going wrong.

Thanks Paul

I'm not sure what is happening with that error message, I recall seeing it somewhere before, but not sure where.  Did you do a search on the phrase through all the forums?
