sorry for causing confiusion:
it still doesn't work with 5.4.3. (at least on my system)
the test-mail from system-configuration works, bulk-email does not. if(!) i get a mail at all, it has the same content as the test-mail. but the cpu still reaches 50% when trying it once, 100% when trying it the second time...

I shamed to say, I actually abandoned the idea of using DNN for the bulk email and did it all through another appplication.  Still hoping to find time to look at the problem, but it's not going to be soon!!.

Dave.

Yea that's the path I started down until I thought 5.4.3 fixed it so I guess I'll start back down it now...
It's pretty bad like when I tell it to send e-mails the entire server crashes I have to RMD into it (if I even can it takes like 2 minutes for it to load the session) and kill the iis process running DNN or else reboot the server from the hosting providers console window... I need to learn more about how to throttle IIS processes so my DNN site doesn't bring down everyone else using the server.

Either way I'd probably prefer just to do it myself cause I always prefer to use the IIS Pickup directory over the .net smtp stuff.....
I've always found .net smtp stuff buggy....

There is actually a bug in the 3.5 smtp where it doesn't send the QUIT command. The SmtpClient class (not sure if that's what DNN is using) doesn't have a dispose method so the only workarounds I've seen are setting the ServicePoint.MaxIdleTime = 1 (which only kind of worked for me) or just using pickup directories.

Does anyone know why DNN doesn't let you specify the IIS Pickup as the method of SMTP delivery?
or I guess more importantly why this started happening in 5.4.2?

Hi,
Just to keep you upto date, I've also found the problem when trying to send a single email.  I've posted the issue on the partners forum, but not had any response...it looks like an issue that is rare and everyone seems to be looking away from until they can get a re-creatable situation on their own machine and prove it's DNN!!...On the european professional forum I did get some response that it was a known issue from 5.3 onwards, but I can't find anything in gemini, so I don't think it's classed as an offical bug!!.....I've got it pined down to 1 line of code on my live server (which I've now removed to stop the issues), I just need to find the time to recreate it on my dev machine and I'll be able to trace the problem......sorry don't know when that will be and even then, because of the different setup, I still may not get the problem happening.

Regards,
Dave.
