I'm currently rolling out digArticle on my tech portal IT Specialist (www.itspecialist.com), and I'm very pleased with it so far. I was using Ventrian, but I liked the social networking style interface of digArticle over Ventrian, so that's the main reason I switched. It has a bit more flexibility in the modules as well. For instance, with Ventrian I couldn't place two instances of the module for two top level categories on the same page without displaying the article on a page all by itself. (i.e. without other modules). With digArticle I can display other modules on a page with its "View" module. As for performance, digArticle seems to render twice as fast as Ventrian, which is nice. I tested this twice by clearing out the browser cache in both instances. The slower response by Ventrian could simply be caused by the littany of settings compared to digArticle, but I'm not certain. If you're big on asthetics like I am, you might want to consider digArticle. Otherwise Ventrian may be fine for your needs.

@William: that actually raises a good point - Ventrian uses their own module view architecture (ie. you pass a querystring var into the URL to show different views of the module - you don't have the standard DNN architecture with View/Edit/Settings etc. This has caused me untold grief over the years (not just the Ventrian modules, there's a couple others that do this due to the limitations in the old versions of DNN - it was a good idea at some point in time) - however, it causes a lot of issue with control over what other modules are shown on the page in Edit mode, SEO difficulties (everything has an extra querystring URL in the view control) and a couple of other things...

It's not too serious and wont both most people but I really want a blog module that uses the core DNN architecture for View/Edit controls.

William,
Thanks for noticing the performance!  We go though great pains to make it fast.  We use both a .net profiler and SQL profiler to make sure everything is optimized, we cache hot data and cache our templates also, we require SQL 2005+ just so we can do fast built-in SQL paging for the article lists.
Thanks,
Mike

@William

well in a way you could , i used the latest articles module and then used jquery ajax, to parse the content from the external detail module page into the page I was currently viewing.

Ok I know its not out of the box but it was a solution.

Talking about this, the one thing I like best about Ventrian is its awesome templating. Do any of the otner mentioned modules also have this extreme control over the layout as Ventrian has with the replacement tags?

Hi Armand, digArticle is 100% template driven, even some of the admin screens are template driven like the moderation lists which the moderator/admin approves/disapproves articles and comments. The only thing that is NOT template driven is of course most of the admin screens and the Article Edit screen. Thanks, Mike
