When I initially installed, i installed using the default DNN 5.5 install with SQL Express.  I now want to switch to using SQL Server 2008.  I tried un-installing SQL Expresss and DNN, then I installed SQL Server 2008, and then ran the DNN install, but it keeps telling me that it detects thaT I want to install SQL Express. 
So I installed DNN again with SQL Express.  Now I want to switch it to SQL Server.  Is there info on how to do this.

I am using Vista, IIS7, SQL Server 2008 and VS 2010.

Are you trying to install SQL Server 2008 or 2008 R2? You should be able to detach the user databases, uninstall SQL Server Express and should run a cleanup tool from Microsoft to remove all remainders before installing SQL Server full version. You shouldn't touch your DNN web site, but need to adjust both connection strings in DotNetNuke, after you attached the databases to the server.

I am trying to install SQL Server 2008.  I would be happier if I could just un-install all DNN and SQL Express and then re-install DNN and not have to install SQL Express.  But I tried, and it seems like DNN automatically installs SQL Express. 

Is there a way to force it to use the installed version of SQL Server and not SQL Express

DNN does NOT install SQL Server - while the Web Platform installer might attempts to, if it doesn't recognize SQL server being installed. You should be able to remove it before starting the installation - however, if you just want to switch to a different SQL Server version, you do NOT need to reinstall DNN.

I guess what I don't understand how to switch from SQL Server Express 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2008 already installed on the computer.
When I start the DNN Installer it tells me that it will install SQL Server Express 2008 R2, even though I have SQL Server 2008 already installed on my machine. If DNN installs with SQL Server Express 2008 R2, then should I need to convert the database to SQL Server 2008
