I cannot say for certain that "will" fix it, but I can say that you do not need any virtual directories. Just redirect all web calls to your DNN install directory, and let the portal alias setting decide which portal to show to the user.

Unless I am missing something, this did not fix the problem. I get a page cannot be found error.

Which page is not being found? The default.aspx page or the WindowsSignIn.aspx page?

All web calls should go to the same instance in IIS, which should be the DNN directory.
