Thanks Hans,

The free FlowPlayer was the one that I thought I would use for Gallery. I've used a couple of variations of it on client sites for music and video playlists.  It's interesting to see that Steve is using it for the repository template. I've got to check with DNN Corp as to what I would need to do regarding licensing, etc. to include it as a third party component.

I am going to try the repository module with the flowplayer template to see how it works. Can you please keep me up to date on the progress of the license on the gallery module.

The only thing that I have found is that you need to upload the FLV files via FTP and then manually modify the Repository tables to reference the FLV file as normally the FLV files are on the order of 30 to 300MB.

Can you tell me the steps involved in this process?  Most of my files will be over 300MB

Hey Bill,

Would have thought it would probably be quicker and less problematic with DNN licencing to use the FLVPlayer class built natively into flash.  We do this with just about every site we build - no need for purchasing 3rd party components - since its already all there in flash out of the box.

And given the nature of the player licence from adobe - the contents of an swf can be released under any licence determined by the person publishing the swf.  Drop me an email - wtatters@live.com.au - sure we can work out a way to create flvplayer for dnn that sits under the DNN licence.

In reality - all that needs to be done is create a swf that exposes a few parameters regarding the flv / f4v source location. And only a minor extension of the swf player capability that already exists in the gallery.

Wes,

There a several issues with the SWF player.  First and foremost is that the entire flash file must be downloaded prior to the swf player starting to process it.  Also, there is the issue of the controls, start, stop, volume and the like.  These must be set in the Flash file.

The issue with FLV files solve many of these issues. With FlowPlayer, your web server is in-fact turned into a streaming server and not just a file server, as is the case with swf files.

Regards
Hans
