Hey, that's some great stuff. But, you have to get to 3 in order to goto 4. I can't get mine from 2.1.2 to 3.??? There are serious issues here which no one is addressing. To describe the various packages is great. But, when you try to upgrade from 2???? to 3???? you have introduced MachineKeys and other things into the web.config which are not explained how they got there in the first place. After hours of trying, backing up database, restoring database, installing 3.??? I am still no farther and have  not received any replies as to how to resolve. Through out the forums everyone is complaining about how bad the install is. But it seems to fall on deaf ears. I know you have three seperate packages. Big deal. If you can read you can see by what type of installation what you should install but you don't give  any idea as to what major changes the MachineKeys have wreaked havoc on the system and when you goto upgrade from 2.1.2 to 3.??? you get duplicate entries for the assemblys and then come up with the black and white and yellow screen of death. SO, you start all over thinking you missed something when in reality none of this stuff is ready for an existing site with any number of portals. Where the hell is correct instructions about the machinekeys. You say copy your web.config settings for the Database but nothing about the keys. Has anyone here tried to update a 2.1.2 to 3.3.4! I don't think so because throughout the forums it shows everyone has problems with them. I know which packages are which by what they are called. What I don't know is why the installation process doesn't work. Great job. I guess I am stuck with 2.1.2 until I can find a replacement for DNN. It has been great and very promising but you have let the ball drop and you don't even listen or enlist anyone to help, because no one else is experienced enough unless they have written a book with Shaun. I am going to write a book called "Shaun of the Dead", oh no that's already out there. It is written all over the forums that the install and upgrade do not work no matter how many times you want to throw it back in the user's face that they just "don't understand". The installer is a joke. Whilhite wants feedback but for what reason. For something to do in the afternoon. I am sure Big Brother won't allow this post. Maybe that is why nothing is being done. It doesn't matter to you and when someone sends you a message, you don't have to replay or take responsibility. If it's open source then everyone should be contributing not just the authors of the latest DONTNETNUKE book!!!!

I hope this makes it to the forum because I think a lot of people share my frustration.

I've just upgraded my localhost version from 4.3.4 to 4.3.5 using the instructions from this forum (notes from Greg Shergold were particularly useful) and got the following status:

Current Assembly Version: 04.03.05

Current Database Version: 04.03.04

Upgrade Status Report

00:00:00.480 - Upgrading to Version: 4.3.5 Success

Should I be worried about the database being at the older version?

Hi there. It really depends on what you are trying to do. Do you want to just run DNN from a local (or remote) web server?  If yes, and you want to run it on your local PC, you will need IIS (MS web server; on the MS Windows XP Pro cd-rom) AND MS SQL Server (or the some version of MS SQL Server) + the "Install" version of DNN.

It sounds like you are new to web applications/web programming (sorry if my assumption is incorrect). If that is the case you may want to get a cheap DNN web host account (some are as cheap as $6/month in the US) so you can try it out...Then as you get more comfortable w/ it, try installing it on your PC....

Good luck.
