Hello,

I have a clients website running DNN 5.1.4. We recently moved the database to a new server. After the move, some modules stopped working, the site works and most modules work but for some modules I get a the error below in the Event Viewer

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. Could nayone please give me an idea as to what may be causing this. I have made sure that all connection strings in the web.config are pointing to the correct place.

Regards

Richard

Accepted Answer

It is most likely that the culprit modules are directly accessing the sql server using the older legacy SiteSqlServer key instead of going thru the new connectionstrings key values.

You need to check your web.config file and make sure that the  key="SiteSqlServer" key is set to correctly point to your new database in the AppSettings area - it should be identical to the value ot the name="SiteSqlServer" value in the connectionstring section.
