It appears that the 7x installer removes the DotNetNuke.Membership.DataProvider.dll file from the bin folder if it exists.  This was causing my site to error out whenever I tried to browse to it.

I was able to get back into my site by restoring that file from backup.  However, I keep reading about how DNN 7 includes an Active Directory authentication provider out of the box.  Should I no-longer be using the 5.0.4 version of the Active Directory Authentication provider that I used on version 6x?  If not, how do I configure and use the one built into DNN 7?
