I am trying to run the DNN7 install wizard on a test server that is running as a virtual machine in our data center - the install wizard has been running for 7+ hours and is showing 0% progress  - it showing as downloading picture http://cdn.dotnetnuke.com/installer/b...... where xxxx is now over 5000 - I have no control over the speed of the internet access that this server has - is there anyway to make the content that the installer is trying to download accessible locally so it doesn't have to go out and download it from the internet? How many files does the install wizard need to download?

If you're not already doint it, download the install zipped package because I don't believe it has to download anything. Once you have that zip, nothing else is required.
